I have 100 materials in a multi-sub object material for the entire level which is roughly a million polys. Is this a bad idea?

each type of objects must have a material.
for example if you have 10 boxes and 2 cars then you need just 2 materials, one material for boxed and one for cars. also if your cars and boxes are different you need other materials
What are you talking about? My question is on whether or not it's more performance heavy to use one giant material library containing all the textures I need or to break it down
